Spotlight on Sydney Lifestyle

Sydney Harbour is the heart and soul of the city, providing spectacular views, zippy ferry transportation and a variety of recreation options to the city's four million residents. Its banks are home to the iconic structures of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Each of the areas along its 20-kilometre stretch offer a different perspective on this major port:
Darling Harbour is flash and tourist-friendly, the North Shore suburbs are refined and trendy, and the various Sydney Harbour National Park areas provide a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of the city. The best way to experience Sydney Harbour is from one of the many cruises departing Circular Quay, champagne flute in hand Loved by tourist and habour-seekers alike

Meeting People & Experiencing Harbour Lifestyle Overheard in Sydney
Sydneysiders always knew they lived in one of the world's great cities, but it wasn't until the 2000 Olympics that the rest of the world started to agree en masse. Top Sydney bars
Since the Games, Sydney has consolidated its position as one of the world's most enchanting cities, and the pre-Olympics building boom ensured Sydney can now hold its own in the five-star stakes. The city's food and wine scene is increasingly sophisticated, its arts scene thriving, its clubs hedonistic - and its prices very moderate in comparison to most European or North American cities.
For me Sydney is the intersection of a dozen roads not taken, the unknown, unknowable city invaded by mittleuropeans and poms that Stephen Sondheim wrote about in Follies:

The choices that you make
Aren't all that grim.
The worlds I'll never see
Still will be around,
Won't they?
The Ben I'll never be,
Who remembers him?

I remember the Jozef that I'll never be, but I don't think about him very often, immersed as I am in this day and the next, and of late the press of work has grown so unrelenting that I've started to feel myself losing touch with the Jozko I once was, the wide-eyed small-town Vrbov boy who came to this aboriginal dream land in search of...what? The Jozef I am now? Or the one I used to be?

Many of my enduring memories of Sydney have to do with food, a fact for which my Mother, a great cook, is to blame. I was introduced to June's cooking and some amazing eathouses. We are born into a vast room whose walls consist of a thousand doors of possibility. Each door is flung open to the world outside, and the room is filled with light and noise. We close some of the doors deliberately, sometimes with fear, sometimes with calm certainty. Others seem to close by themselves, some so quietly that we do not even notice.
